Google Maps Goes from Street View to Beach View

Google street view just got more interesting. Beginning in Summer 2013, Google joined VisitFlorida.com, Florida’s tourism agency, to make all of Florida’s beach available on Google Maps. While Google is making a similar effort photographing the trails of the Grand Canyon, this is the first large scale trekking for beaches. If you’ve even wanted to see a beach before renting an expensive house, now you can. Google Trekkers are walking Florida’s 825 miles of beaches with the famous Google panoramic cameras strapped to their backs. This is one of many agendas VisitFlorida.com has to make Florida the world’s top travel destination. With 2013 set to become a record year for Florida tourism, it’s likely to be a future possibility.

Like Google’s other mapping projects, you can expect to see some unexpected and embarrassing sightings. Should be interesting, indeed.
